Laika was one giant muscle. She was known to be a bit too strong for her own good at times, especially when walking on leash. This led to some epic tug-of-wars early on in our attempts at taking leisurely walks. These weren't done to control her just to make her a good citizen, but to keep her her safe from bolting into the street or worse. As we finally got our routine and training together, Laika was much less of a powerhouse on leash, but there were times where she got incensed and needed to follow the bad smells like a bloodhound!
In times like these, she developed a stance that challenged both the strength of the harness and the my balance. Laika learned to use her low center of gravity to gain a pretty huge advantage in the leash battle. She got so low, with all four paws spread out, that she looked like a spider scaling a wall! Combined with her nose going a mile a minute with her head tracing the trail of whatever tickled her fancy, she resembled some sort of cartoon character. Needless to say, it was hilarious. Elaina noted that it was Laika's "Spiderman walk," which was a perfect description of it.
This special walk was, thankfully, not displayed very often. However, when Laika turned into a crawling superhero, it did sometimes require me leaning backwards a little bit, just to keep from being pulled-over! All in all, Big Baby's spider walk was a clear symbol of her cleverness, strength and ability to make everyone wonder if she did actually have superpowers!
