Story 74: Fashion Files - Haberdashery

Lynda is probably one of my craftiest friends, in that she creates beautiful things out of ordinary objects. Years ago, she saw an article about a photographer who was working to change the image of pitbulls by taking photos of them with wreaths of flowers on their heads to create cherubic images of a horribly misunderstood breed. Lynda was inspired and created two amazing hats for Laika. The results were, as you will see, stunning.

The first was a "Happy Holidays" tiara, bedecked with red flowers and ribbon. Dubbed the "holiday helmet," this was an instant hit with everyone except Laika! I managed to snap a few photos of her wearing it, but it would not stay on well due to her head shape. Obviously, it was shaped for a full-on crown, not a tiara! Still, holiday cheer was spread!

The second hat was a white Easter bonnet adorned with giant yellow sunflowers. As luck would have it, Laika modeled it while wearing her yellow shirt, creating quite an fashionable ensemble! She actually didn't mind wearing it. With the help of a chin strap, she wore it well, making everyone smile by parading around happily in such a jaunty, bright hat. She even put on her best pouty modeling look during the photoshoot! (This was her "blue steel" moment.) I have actually made buttons of the one photos to give to my friends, because Laika in the bonnet became a fun, funny and iconic image that I wanted to share with others.

Thanks to Lynda's artistic vision, Laika was never at a loss for festive headwear. In fact, the haberdashery perfectly matched Laika's personality...and her shirt! I am glad Laika was so inspired that she actually posed for the camera twice in her life (with the help of treats, of course)!
